We haven't seen a staff with this many good recruiters since Jim Mora assembled his initial staff at UCLA and built a Pac-12 south dynasty.

The sad part is they are both at basketball schools.
 
I'm hoping this turns out like the Altman hire. At least there's a real-live, no shit commitment to getting top assistants and paying them top dollar. People like Cristobal and Leavitt want to be HCs again, so they need to kick some ass for Slick Willie.

Brady Joke was a fucking retread whose only previous DC job was at a high school. Why Marijuana Mark Helfrich wanted to hire him for the DC job blew my mind. Last year the defense was actually worse than the dreck Pellum put on the field the year before.

Taggart has hired the DC at Colorado, who took a bunch of 2 and low 3 star guys and built one the best defenses in the country, and is a guy with HC experience, Mario Cristobal from Alabama, which I think speaks for itself, Salavea from WSU who has done a lot with very little at Wazzu and hopefully will keep our Poly pipeline open. Most of his hires, and he, are from the John Harbaugh coaching tree.

I think Oregon's going to be a fun team to watch next year. Laugh all you want, but Taggart has put together a top-notch staff.

Colorado gave up a ton of points to any decent team they played

That is a nice zinger although it isn't true unless you define "decent team" as any team that scored a lot of points against Colorado.

The Buffs defense was good but not great. 4.9 yards per play allowed- 21st in the nation. Significant though are the year over year improvements.

2014: 6.4 ypp (pre-Leavitt)
2015: 5.7 ypp (year one)
2016: 4.9 ypp (year two)
Alamo Bowl: 7.0 ypp (first game post-Leavitt)

From my perspective there are two ways to view the Okie State game:
1. Leavitt's D was exposed
or
2. Leavitt got a lot more out of his limited talent through scheming and adjustments and as soon as he left they reverted to their talent level (similar to the Tedford/Smith theory.)

Unfortunately we will never know if Leavitt would have made a difference in that game through scheming or adjustments. But even as a casual fan it seemed obvious that CU should deploy a safety to help Awuzie against Washington but they never did.

2nd bold - went from a HC to an oline coach, a lot like tom cable. congrats, you got the hispanic tom cable.
