Oregon's Athletic Director: Fans Should 'Place a Priority on Civility'

EUGENE, Ore. – Days before the Oregon Ducks take on the Washington Huskies, officials at the University of Oregon are urging football fans to play nice.

An ad signed by University of Oregon’s Athletic Director Rob Mullens appeared in a local newspaper Tuesday morning.

It starts by calling Duck fans “electric, amazing…best in all of college football,” but when you keep reading the ad, there’s a request. The request calls for fans to “place a priority on civility.”

@oregonblitzkrieg , in a television interview Tuesday, rejected the idea that Ducks should be “civil” with Huskies in the age of Chris Petersen, embracing a more confrontational and aggressive fan approach.

“You cannot be civil with a football program that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” @oregonblitzkrieg said.

Speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, the 2016 70-21 loser said, “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win this game, that’s when civility can start again.
