One of the happiest days of my life Nov 1981

I gotta be honest. Getting down to the USC 35 in the 4th quarter and watching James go conservative and play for the FG (albeit including a dropped snap) gave me big Petersen at Oregon in 2018 vibes. I would've been cursing James out from the stands.

Football was a lot different back then. Coaches always punted on 4th down or went for the field goal One of the reasons yours truly would have fired him just like Petersen. I'm convinced that a whole generation grew up watching this kind of football and became the leaders in spread offenses and anal ytics on going for it
Now I kind of miss the slug it out ground game. Kind of. Today the best game is when a spread team gets the lead and then just runs it up the ass of the small quick defense to put it away. Oregon State v Oregon in 2022 is one of the great games ever. Didn't throw a pass during a big comeback
