This all makes sense but OU has a financially flush and active athletic department. They invest heavily in all sports and are post season worthy in nearly all of them. They've got 45 national championships across 7 sports. Football, baseball, golf, softball, mens and women's gymnastics and wrestling. They won't slip away quietly, if Vennables isn't the guy they will move on and spend bigly on the next coach. I wish UW had the level of commitment across the board that Oklahoma does, winning is fun.Oklahoma could be the new Nebraska fairly soon. Nothing about them being a power other than being somewhat close to the Texas recruiting footprint and past success (which is getting further and further away) makes sense and like Nebraska going to the Big 10, they could be further weakened in a tougher pool in the SEC.
I feel like OU also didn’t waste any tim with firing shitty coaches either. Both OU and NU rose to dominate college football with the triple option - either I formation or Wishbone. They could recruit who they needed to win. Mainly 4.3 guys to carry the rock
OU transitioned to the spread passing age much better than Nebraska and could still pull California talent to go with their Texas connections. Stoops won a natty and was in contention for years. Reilly kept it going
Nebraska was fading and then after getting run by Miami in the title game they got rid of the guy that followed the Man and have been in the wilderness ever since
Coaching is still the most important variable. OU went from Tatum to Wilkinson to Fairbanks to Switzer to Stoops to Reilly
Nebraska went from Delaney to Osborne to shit
The B1G killed the Huskers but OU will adjust to the SEC. They beat Bama didn't they?
