If the right wing had it's way, the state would be doing the same thing in the USA on behalf of the christian bible.

One could argue that Christianity has mellowed, because it is 500-600 years older than Islam. But there was a lot of terrorism happening in the name of Christianity just a couple hundred years ago, which is probably one of the reasons our founding fathers were smart enough to guarantee separation of church and state in the USA. Something that guys like Pat Robertson and Pat Buchanan (the right wing) would love to overturn.
