I was in 9th grade in a Beaverton School District junior high and was a participant in the district's Mock Democratic 1968 Convention and a member of the California delegation. Students from all over the state formed mock state delegations and the mock convention was held at Sunset High School in early May of 1968 and the keynote speaker for the convention was RFK who was in the state campaigning for the Oregon May Primary. The gym was overpacked and Bobby was treated like a Beatle. Literally the crowd went crazy. Surprised nobody got hurt. The next Tuesday, he lost to Eugene McCarthy 44% to 38%. A month later he won the California primary and was killed that night by the CIA[/s] Sirhan Sirhan. Never forget either night. Also never forget our first year teacher who was our delegation advisor who was a 23 year old Greek heritage teacher with beautiful olive skin and perfect long legs. In 1968 mini skirts were a thing and women teacher's couldn't wear pants so it was a couple of months of short miniskirts. I wish there were pictures.
