I'm 2 episode in. Enjoying it thus far.
I've always been a big Slingblade fan and appreciate his various roles.
Some decent tittays for the Throbber.
I'm endlessly fascinated by the oil bidness and plenty of good free pub for @UW_Doog_Bot

 
I think it's entertaining which is nice. Billy Bob is great
It's also pretty fair on the enviro v oil debate. Course it leans my way but still

Billy Bob is one the most underrated western actors of all time. Guy is perfect for this stuff.
Seems fair thus far on oil and yet Ali is hot AF. I believe her jugs make an appearance later in the series.
I guess they had to cast her because of Friday Night Lights being another west Texas, Permian Basin film.
 
Seems to be the best of the Taylor Sheridan productions. Billy Bob is in his perfect role as foul mouthed cowboy.
Yellowstone was fucking awesome after two episodes, too. Like Joe Biden, never underestimate Taylor Sheridan's ability to fuck things up.
The hot AF daughter is 27 IRL. brb, jo.

Lioness is decent. The 27 Yellowstone sequels and prequels are decent. Harrison Ford and Tim Mcgraw among others
Sheridan couldn't get work as an actor so he started writing and made millions and got roles in his shows

I really liked 1883. Not gonna lie, the ending really got me. I watched the first season of 1923 thinking it was a one shot thing like 1883. Looking forward to the completion of the story. I like both those shows better than Yellowstone. It has gotten too over the top, but I’m pot committed at this point, gotta see how it plays out.

The rant against wind turbines in episode 3 is a bit over the top. Yes there is a need for carbon to get them set up and running but once in operation it’s very minimal carbon burn to capture the energy. Compared to 20 years of pumping oil instead? Come on. The infrastructure issues are real but to imply we shouldn’t do anything about it is insane.

I also like Yellowstone and will be intrigued how they wrap this season up. 1883 was really good. Haven’t checked out 1923.

I'm not going to Tug it out but yes, HIS argument is a Hollywood strawman of the actual argument against wind.
That said the ROE on wind sucks and wind will NEVER provide any meaningful contribution to sustained baseload. That alone should disqualify it from discussion as anything other than a niche application. Yet at this point trillions have been dumped into it.
Wind and solar are scams for rent seeking grift.
Your options for baseload are coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear. Hydro where feasible. That's it.
 
Billy Bob is the frontman for a band called the Box Mechanics. Saw them play a small venue here in Lexington in 2019. The only reason I went was for the novelty of seeing Billy Bob up close.
Mrs Nacho is a former pianist and a bit of a classical music prodigy and she said the musicians in the band were legit.

Billy Bob is Good singer but was super fucking awkward on stage. I expected him to be much more gregarious and entertaining between songs and he was anything but that.

Liberal rag Forbes disagrees. For five years now, the unsubsidized cost per installed MWh of onshore wind and utility scale solar have been below the cost of operating existing coal infrastructure. Nuclear is promising if the red tape weren't so expensive, so hopefully we get some movement there. It is cheap and easy to install enough capacity to supply the country entirely with renewables. It's expensive and difficult to build out enough storage capacity to make it work.
The reason my plant is owned by some two-bit company I'd never heard of instead of the second largest energy company in the world is the big players like making money. I think the big players can also see the writing on the wall that they'll eventually be sued into oblivion by governments that care, so they're trying to get ahead of balancing their energy portfolios.

yeah Billy bobs 20 year and still not ahead carbon wise didnt sound right to me.

Isn’t a place like Texas great for wind though? Always windy and close to metro areas? My understanding is that is only makes sense when you don’t have to transmit insane distances.

I do large capital projects for a living. For one of the top energy companies in the world.
Without subsidy wind and solar are toast. That's before the fact that all the low hanging fruit has already been picked.
Storage has the same fate as fusion. Just around the corner forever. Just pour another trillion into it and cross your fingers.
Big players are into these things for marketing to the ignorant and because of government handouts. Full stop. Not because of risk mitigation for lawfare.
If there was actual money to be made they'd own the major projects instead of some green startups founded by the brother-in-law of a congressman.
Lol I personally know owners of major solar installers in California. I promise you your perception of the industry doesn't line up with reality by and large.

And the economics still suck and rely on government market manipulation. That's without considering negative externalities either.
Then you have stuff like the Texas storms. Sure, lots of factors and multiple causes there but it's still a case study in how you can't ramp up wind or solar when you may need to.
"Renewables" are also anything but. We've just mostly offshored all the environmental damage to China.
They have a niche but that's all it really is unless you are a full blown cultist that wants people to go back to living in the stone age.
