Official BearsWinn Appreciation Thread

Weaver was such a huge fucking miss for us in recruiting. It can't be understated.

Goes to show you star rankings are 55% predictive of future success, 45% complete bullshit

Amandre Williams was so much better!!!!111!!!

This. I feel the same about all the bullshit about UW leveling up. Pettis, Gaines, King, Jones, BBK, Dissly, Sample, etc. All lightly recruited guys that didn’t have any blue bloods after them. I don’t care what the guys we bring in are ranked, better results your team has, the more the recruiting rankings gets skewed.

Ever wonder why there were so many nfl draft picks out of the 2014 class compared to 2015 and 2016?

Ever think we were super lucky with our 2014 class and we wouldn’t be able to sustain that success without improving our recruiting?

I had a feeling about Cal today. Too pussy to pull the trigger in pickem. Fuck me.

Also, someone once said Wilcox would make a better head coach than DC. I think they were right, because I hated his defenses at UW and now look at him.

Wilcox was the #1 scapegoat at USC when Sark was there. He has good defenses when he’s not around Sark. He’s probably the best all around coach from the Pete coaching tree. Lake will probably be a pretty good head coach too.

Wilcox coached for Tedford before he coached for Pete

Wilcox seems like he's going to get some offers in a year or two at bigger schools.

He would kill at USC. Organized, tuff, and confident. Three things USC hasn't been for quite some tim. It's too bad their fan base hates him. Can we give a round of applause to the program that practices their hole in one swing rather than making sure you can sink a putt. Good luck with the Urban chasing. The Del Rio or Fisher eras will be truly speshul.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet, since the guy is still only a career .550 coach at Cal. But if he's good enough to get offers from big programs, then he'll be good enough to get a big pay raise from Cal. Cal does that - look at what we? paid Tedford once he made it clear that he could get us? to compete for the conference championship (and Bear fans are still discussing his last contract extension, which gifted him a bunch of dough even after it was clear that he'd taken a few steps back).

Wishful thinking around Cal circles at the moment is that Wilcox is a good fit for Cal. He doesn't seem to care for the limelight and the hope is that he won't want to deal with the pressure and scrutiny that comes with other more high-dollar and high-profile places. He's also a west-coast guy, whatever the fuck that means. He's just interested in building something at Cal, where he can sell its academics and differentness as well as its top-notch facilities and renovated stadium. He may feel differently at some poont, but I'd be very surprised if he jumped ship before establishing something substantial in Berkeley.

USC, Tennessee, and Florida State are big time programs that have made worse decisions in the past couple years and will all most likely be looking again.

Holiday bowl gets him an interview.

Cal has an incredibly low ceiling in comparison to most other p5 programs. Wilcox knows this. First big offer he gets, he’s gone.

Wilcox is only 42 years old. Seems like he’s been around forever but that’s because he only served three years as a LB coach before rising to DC at Boise at 29.

He has plenty of time. Could wait out 3-4 more USC coaches before needing to make his move.

Assuming that is that he can actually build a program and his success to date isn’t just smoke and mirrors. I still think he loses four games this year.

9-4 would be a huge step in the right direction for Cal at this poont.

People thought that Tedford would bolt at the first opportunity for bigger program/more money. Cal gave him more money, as they will Wilcox if he has a good year and starts getting attention. He's more likely to stay than he is to leave anytime soon, IMO

Bears look good so far, but I can easily see them dropping 3 games in a row, and dropping out of the AP poll.

Cal's D will keep them in every game, but their O will need to be flawless to give them a chance against the better half of the Pac-12

I was just looking at the regular season so 8-4 plus bowl but yeah either 8 or 9 wins keeps some positive momentum going especially with Stanford falling off the cliff.
