Men's Crew represent the only time in the history of UW athletics where one of our? sports faced an existential crisis of becoming completely irrelevant as a national power, and the program's boosters (people care) did what football is incapable of doing- i.e., "buy" National Championships.

This is true. I was one of the first class of "grunties" (aka Freshman) who didn't have to sell programs for beer money. I was grateful for it.
