There is a lot that can be done. The perpetrators of most of the gun crime (democrats), have no interest in doing what it takes so nothing will change. Calling for the confiscation of guns is all they parrot and that is not going to happen. 99.7% of the gun owners in this country would never commit a crime with a gun. If they did take away all the guns the only ones with them would be the bad guys:
Take all guns away from democrats and for the most part the violence disappears.
Double the police forces and increase their pay.
Eliminate cradle to grave government dependency and the problem goes away.
Disincentivize having children with no fathers or having babies out of wedlock and most the problem goes away.
Force those on welfare to work and the rate goes down.
Make parents responsible for their children's crimes and you will see a very large drop in gun crimes.
Take away gun privileges from the mentally ill. That includes transgender individuals.
Curfews for teens in bad areas.
Criminalize having crazy adult children and double the size of police departments!

I never said anything about criminalizing the parents of adult children. Why would you make that up? Is it because you can't debate and win the original point of the post? Seriously, grow up.
Doubling the size of police departments is not encouraging big government. Off set that expense by gutting the useless bureaucracy at all levels of government, eliminate the waste and fraud and get rid of retirement programs (PERS) where liberals give themselves exorbitant retirement packages paid for off the backs of private sector taxpayers, ridiculous packages that are currently bankrupting whole states.
See, its simple. You do the things I just listed and you can grow the police departments of every state and city by about 10X and not even feel it. A stark difference from you and your party who want to decrease police forces. You have leadership in your party that still believe in getting rid of policing even though virtually everywhere democrats have defunded police has seen an increase in crime.
