Stafford has never won a significant game in his career and to say he's going to live up to this contract is a pipe dream.

Detroit has a very low bar and if they can make the playoffs every 4th season, they will be happy. Sure this is too much money for Stafford, but that's the going rate now for a top 15 QB. And when the next midlevel QB comes up for contract, He'll get even more money than Stafford will.
