Newman threw for 41 yards against Clemson. He could be good and it could be an aberration, but that is pretty much the only team he played with a pulse.
 
He already played a bunch for a mediocre Pac-12 program. Why would he want to do that again?

I'd rather ride pine and lose to Bama or LSU than throw my way into a loss against Cal.

Well, unless he plans on applying for a waiver, and actually gets it(can't see it), Newman will be gone before he's eligible to play anyway.
Once he is eligible, he'll really only have to beat out Brock Vandagriff to win the job, and Vandagriff will be a true freshman in 2021. Vandagriff is supposed to be really good, but if Daniels can't beat out a true freshman, as a RS Senior, he probably wouldn't have much of a future in the sport anyway.
