Completely different experiences. The Mommy car doesn't shake at idle with a lumpy cam, smell of half-burned gasoline, twist when you hit the gas, etc.

It is somewhat surprising to hear you've never driven any kind of muscle car or sports car. Not sure how anyone can go through life, where you spend xx number of years sitting in a car, and just stick with the experience of driving the equivalent of a washing machine.

Bad timing. Papa Yellar was a Chevy dealer from '81 to '88 and then Shitty Dodge from '89 to '91. He drove only shitty 80's Vettes in the 80's and then a series of Porsches from '89 to '92- i.e., 944, 928 and then 911 Carrera 4. The last Porsche went away when I was 15 and didn't have a learners permit yet.

Fast forward to college and I'm not a gear head and didn't have any gear head frens either. I needed 4WD trucks and SUV's for my mountain man, Pup-esque lifestyle. And I'm only upper middle-class rich and never had the coin to buy a fancy new sports or muscle car. Sad.

I am solidly upper middle-class with a stay at home wife (who does have a very part-time remote gig) and a mortgage, blah blah. Muscle cars aren't that expensive unless you want the king kong versions with 800 hp.

I know they're not expensive, per se, @BleachedAnusDawg . Just doesn't fit with the Yella Piss family lifestyle.

You got me thinking of a good thread idear now for my shoppe.

I'll probably never get the pleasure of hearing/feeling the roar of a big block V8 with a 4 barrel carb again (or duel 4 barrels or three 2 barrels). Nice muscle cars are too expensive now for what they are. I'm happy to have driven many and even lined a few up and run 1/4 and 1/8 miles. There's something different and thrilling about old school muscle.

Yeah. Chevy 350. Bought it from a guy in Tacoma. Called him toothless Jesus, because he was toothless. And looked like Jesus.

But the bastard could build a car.

He was basically giving it away because he was pissed the track wouldn’t let him keep running it without getting a full, certified cage.

I took the nitrous out, painted it and put in the interior and it’s a fun little fuck around in the summer ride.

Thanks for sharing. Very cool car. I'm sure it is a blast, and a head turner. I've seen a few Z cars with small blocks in them, but haven't driven one. Did once have the pleasure of driving a modified 240Z, weber carbs, header, high performance cam, some mild suspension work. That thing was a blast.

The last fun car I had was a 1967 RS Camaro Convertible. It was red and looked a lot like your SS 396. Mine came with a 327 but had a transplanted 350 crate engine with some work done to it, hooker long tube headers (sounded nasty when tached up), 3.73 limited slip rear end, 4 speed ("WR"), traction bars and rear multi-leafs from a '68, axle wrap/hop on '67's is terrible. It was quick but ran out of gas early with those gears. Good thing too, it had drum brakes, too much speed wasn't a good idea, haha.

Definitely in this boat. The Iowa Rose Bowl was when I first really became interested. I was like 9 and didn’t know the nuances or understand how truly special it was. UW proceeded to win a lot for a few more years and I just took that for granted as a kid who didn’t know anything else. I have clear memories of that team and know that nothing will ever be quite as good as when you were a kid, but definitely want that experience as someone with an almost fully formed brain.

I met my future wife because as a 22 year old I bet all I had to my name ($1,000) on that game against Iowa and it allowed me to be a ski bumb in CO for 6 months. I was partying like a rock star at halftime in the RB and freaking out at the end that Hayden Fry was throwing 50 yard bombs with 1 minute left trying to cover the spread.
