I wonder if Oregon was one of the bidders?

Feels like only Miami or maybe an A&M would go find and burn 10 mil for a receiver that has already built up his reputation and can quit on you in an instant.

It's a great point I haven't heard that one of these guys who has already established themselves as a tattooed in Top 5-10 pick would be a very bad investment. Smith has zero to prove and wouldn't be outrageous if he just sat out next year or did something like Nick Bosa did.

I'd actually listen to the Miami pitch if I were him. You already won a title at Ohio State, go back to your hometown, who almost won last year, and have fun and make money, but ultimately I'm a don't bail on yoru team guy.

The whole set up is stupid because what is to stop programs from telling middle men like the guy in the Demond situation to just go around making verbal offers and shit to players just to fuck with other programs and stir the pot?

Where's all this money coming from. We went from 1 head coach being payed 8 million to now we have 5 times that in annual salaries for the team in a matter of 7 or 8 years
The numbers have really accelerated and exploded in recent years. They're crazy compared to what I remember hearing off the record of what guys like Penix and Odunze may have been paid to come back for 2023. It could be it's helped by being able to pay through the school now, combined with private money.

Just feels like all the deficit or small margin talk we've had for ever was very disingenuous

Right? Think about how much money is going to players right now. All estimated of course because nothings public.

There are 68 teams in the power 4. If the top 10 are paying $40M/year and the next 58 are paying an average of $25M/year.

That's $1.85 BILLION dollars that is all of a sudden flooding into college football payroll. Wild.
