The lack of HC experience is a concern I've already raised. Maybe he's a guy ready to pop as a HC. No one knows.

Big swing, we'll see if it connects. At least they're trying something. I'd rather have DeBoer but we shall see.

How about Dan Lanning? Those Georgia D's are legit.

He's basically who we wish Jimmy Lake was.

This should be someone who gets an interview.

Yeah, his defense is lights fucking out - but he’s also got the Kirby recruits on that team that are akin to bringing gunpowder and horses to conquer a civilization armed with rocks and leather shields. Sorry for the war imagery.

What sells me on Lanning is the career progression from 2011 to 2018. Within that time he impressed the people he met so much that two average and two elite coaches bet on him. DCs have up-and-down on field success, even the best ones. But this career arc is something:

1. High school special teams coordinator gets Todd Graham to give him a chance as a GA at Pitt
2. Turns that into recruiting coordinator with him at ASU
3. Becomes position coach and recruiting coordinator at an FCS school
4. Gets Saban to make him a Bama GA
5. Hired as a position coach for Mike Norvell who met him on Britney’s staff at ASU,
6. Position coach at UGA for one season before Tucker bounced to dick Colorado, and Lanning becomes the DC.

Props to @BroadcastingDawg for being first. Wrong job opening, but by hh precedent both of us get to call first and right.

OU was going with him or Venables so they saw something in him. He calls the Georgia D

So Chip told Phil he was staying put. Just read Canzano 30 minutes ago and this wasn't a done deal and search still ongoing, "very reliable sources".
