Give him a raise

If Walters holds Oregon to 20 or under, he should get a 30% raise because he is doing an increasingly good job as DC. Probably tack on a year because it would set the D back again to lose him.

Yes.

Chun should lie to him and tell him he will be considered for HC if he stays a few years

Walters could be our modern day Lambo, not sure about the HC part. Maybe he is over wanting to be a HC and just wants to be a highly paid and respected DC? Wishful thinking

I’m really glad he’s already failed as a head coach.

I remember Walters saying before the season that he knows what a good front 7 is supposed to look like and we had a good one.

The defense getting better all season is a big reason why I’m optimistic about next year. Some tweaks of the offense and Demond maturing and we could be really good.

Fisch giving up the play calling is the only thing maybe as imperative for an off-season natty as retaining Walters.
I cannot believe this defense has kept them in physical fucking games with Ohio State and Michigan while the offense gives them 0 breathing room.
Last year's team, those games look like @ Iowa

That quote, and then him also talking about how basically zero head coaches in college call their offensive plays, was really annoying to hear.
Jedd will never change.

It was funny though when Yogi was talking about the situation and corrected himself to refer to Jedd as They/Them.

When the play caller is also the decision maker on go for it on 4th downs that if often a problem.

Definitely have a good one now and it seems like the staff is devoting more House Settlement resources to DL recruiting. Need to get a 3 down Edge Rusher in the portal because Durfee probably won't have another year and Isaiah Ward and Deuce Davis are more pass-rusher specialists who are injured too often.
Regarding Walters, I bet he wants another crack at a head coaching job so there are worse things that getting paid very well at UW for 2-3 seasons and seeing how to build a program. I am advocating for at least a 30% raise for him (if not 50%) since a Blue Blood may try to poach him. He's from LA so staying on the West Coast must have some sort of appeal to him.

Good post about the needs on the DL, but why are you so stuck on the house settlement? It will change nothing. The big boys will still be able to buy what they want and need. We need to do the same. No house settlement is going to drastically change things in our favor.

Because a source told me that one of the reasons why Oregon had multiple decommits (including Kodi Greene) around the time it passed was because they couldn't just throw NIL money at players to buy them. The Clearinghouse and the fact that programs like UW are well-funded via Tyees (but don't reach Oregon / Ohio State levels of NIL money) helped the level things somewhat. I don't know if that is a fact but the timeline makes sense.
I'm sure in the actual reality is somewhere in the middle in that the House Settlement isn't the end all be all and Chun will still need to work harder to bring in more NIL but it does help a program like Washington somewhat.

Sources?
I don't think clinging to the Clearinghouse thing is a great idea. I assume if it's truly enforced you would just see the biggest spenders pivot back to backchannel payments. I do think Caple's podcast said a really high percentage of the proposed deals apparently so far have been denied, which I like. I'm all for players getting paid actual value but not a fake market inflated by a handful of boosters who drive everything up.
I also think it's naive to just say Clearinghouse etc is great for UW. Are you sure it's not just that UW is willing to overpay for guys like Green and DCB because they're local and that won out? Or, outbid UW-level programs for the guys we do get?

The Caple data point is a good one. I'm not sure about UW willing to overpay or not, hopefully we'll hear about that later.

The clearing house is apparently fine with the typical 5-7k bags that were rumored 10+ years ago in that story about the SEC.
You can just take whatever amount of money you want and divide it up and have our player take N pictures in front of Simply Seattle to get them all cleared, I'm assuming.
Or have Bo go serve N Chick-fil-A sandwiches, etc
