Original guitarist for the 70's Southern Rock Band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Played a Les Paul most of the time. His solos were known by his double stops and effortless slides of notes. Not to mention his slide guitar work. You just KNOW when Gary was playing. Kind of lazy, kind of late on the beat. Love his shit.

I only know him from the Skynyrd documentary on Netflix I saw a few months ago. He didn't look very healthy. I think he had some brain injury from the plane crash.

No. He joined in like 74. But he was on the Street Survivors LP and on the plane. Pretty OG IMO.

Not original, but I think he's the only living one now who was actually a real member on an album. My friend has a great story of a local fire department calling him about tickets to a fundraiser headlined by Artimus Pyle. He was a big Skynyrd fan and was stoked, but asked the guy what Artemis was playing. Guy's answer "all the hits." Friend explained Artemis was a drummer - is he drumming the hits or singing them? Guy ran out of answers.
