Want to be a local scout.com recruiting expert? Just follow our idiotproof script:

1. Predict every kid that shows any interest at all to your local school.
2. When they inevitably go elsewhere just reach into our pre-stocked grabbag of excuses. Feel free to use multiple excuses for the same recruit:

-You were right before you were wrong, things change out here.
-Blame your customers for being overly involved in the product you sell
-Distance- works either way. In-state kid? Just wanted to leave. Out of state? Parents won't travel.
-Blame the kid for being an idiot.
-Local school didn't really want him anyway
-As an "expert" you have secret info that you can't disclose (consider getting a "chat" in which you can shamelessly make stuff up)
-Academis
-Minimize loss by pointing to secret sleeper recruits that staff is busy hiding from rivals

Congratulations you are now an expert! Make sure to stock your desk drawers with plenty of alcohol and nachos.
 
We're making a lot of calls, hearing a lot of things out here, out here. Will pass along what we can. Here is one tidbit we were able to confirm- Adult Friend Finder was hacked.
 
BTW, if you really want the inside scoop on recruiting, listen to the pod. Plenty of stuff on there that isn't on the site. KJR runs select pods at 5 a.m. Sunday mornings too.
 
You forgot that when a kid randomly commits that you've never heard of you can either say, "he was totally off the radar nobody was on this kid" or "we knew this was in the works for some time, but we kept it under wraps. We want to be trusted by kids and coaching staffs - it's more important for us do it the right way. We're in this for the long haul."
 
And, the old stand-by: We'd rather be right than first.
