Football programs that think they have a special history but really don't

Dan Devine went from ASU to Missouri in the late 50s. Had some success but Oklahoma and Nebraska ran the Big 8. Missouri won a couple in the 60s

One of 17 teams to claim the 1960 natty

Devine left Missouri for Notre Dame where he won a natty with Joe Montana

Until Pinkel showed up that was it. Pinkel was decent at best

Florida has 3 natties spilt between 2 legendary coaches since 1996 (2 years after football was invented).

They also have claim to arguably the greatest college football player of all-time (Tim Tebow), 3 total Heisman winners, a nationally known Stadium nickname (The Swamp), and currently have the 8th most active NFL players.

Would love to hear the argument against them?

Was having an interesting conversation with a friend of mine.

This was my list

UCLA
Oregon
Iowa
Missouri
Florida
Texas A&M
Michigan State

Maybe Baylor

One of these is not like the others.

3 national titles in the past 30 years is pretty damn special. Only topped by Bammer in that stretch.

Michigan State boasts 6 national championships. Doesn't mean they don't view themselves in an overrated light.

And they are all 1966 and prior. And 4 of the 6 are UW 1960 style “claimed” natties.

Natties when all of here were alive just mean more.

i guess im not 100% clear on how you and your 'friend' defined 'special history,' but still.

Real Dawg fans wanted Pinkel bad back 20-25 years ago.
