Chip Kelly knew what he was doing when it came to recruiting, and Helfrich will likely follow. He made an Oregon scholarship offer something that had to be earned. He wasn't calling kids like Darien Washington, Matthew Lyons, Sifa Tufunga, (insert other Sark commit who was getting interest from no other schools) and offering them over the phone. He wasn't taking in-state D-3 level players like Cooper Pelleur, Jamal Jones, and Cory Fuvai. He didn't waste time on "diamond in the rough", "upside", "potential" guys. He took guys from Texas, Florida, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, and he absolutely destroyed Sark in head to head recruiting battles (minus Shelton). If you look down our commit list you see a lot of kids who picked us because we were there best option. Sark likes it that way because it's easier and it makes everyone say he is a great recruiter.
