I still vividly remember some of the great writing from 1984. He did a great job of alluding to certain things without saying them. An example is when Winston was hanging out in proletarian part of town and there was that missile explosion. While Oceania was in a constant state of war, it's unclear who shot the missile, was it East Asia or was Oceania just firing missiles on its own people to get them fired up?

Instead of missiles today- its race relations. Democrats love nothing more than pitting people against each other.
