This is what scares me about Jimmy. Being a head coach is a much different skill-set than being a position coach or coordinator...one of which is being a hiring/managing.

And it’s not like it’s a skill you suddenly get better at...

This isn’t true. If it was, how do you explain Ed O? Head coaches hire better coordinators and coaches all the time.
