DeBoer and recruiting

Hard to overstate how bad he and his staff were at that part of the job.

It wasn't just getting blown out of the water by UO and USC, but also that UW recruiting seemed stuck at the level of a perpetual scrappy 7-5 program.

DeBoer just rolled over on commitments like his South Dakota homeboy Klienholz if a high-profile school made a late push. Does anybody doubt — even after an appearance in the National Championship game and back-to-back Top 10 finishes — it would've been any different for Dominic Kirks?

Despite the well-chronicled heroics of Penix, settling for a G5-ish type talent fit only for Leach's Air Raid who'd gotten benched at Mississippi State and apparently had little else in the way of high-profile offers.

Then just giving out scholarships on reaches like the twins from Detroit who didn't even have MAC offers or the benchwarmer QB from San Diego State or the puny cornerback from Oregon.

Bringing along or hiring JAG coaches like Breckterfield, Inge, Marks and so on who clearly demonstrated no fire for recruiting.

There's a reason why several of the high-profile prospects UW was supposedly were in on were talking about their relationships with Courtney Morgan instead of their actual position coaches.

DeBoer's recruiting approach was half-assed from Day 1 and there's little chance UW football would gotten back to the Top 10 without a major revamp

DeDouche had a two year plan powered by BPE and NFL wide receivers that were already here.

Yup. I’ve been saying this. Even with DeBoer - it’s an 8 win team next year max. Without him and all the departures, probably fighting for a bowl berth unless the coach brings studs with him (Fisch).

I don’t disagree. There should be a full recounting and post mortem on the DeBoer pros and cons of what he and his staff did here in 2 years.

He rolled the dice and won.

If Penix had gotten hurt again in 2022 or even this year, DeBoer's seat likely would've been warm for Year 3 and the talent on hand wouldn't suggest any kind of upward trajectory

KU has a very good QB, too (and, yes, he was banged up in 2023) in Jalon Daniels.

Much better than the Air Raid system guy DeBoer and Grubb lazily brought in from Miss. State

Also the top half-dozen signees from KU's 2024 class -- all from afar — would certainly fit in with the top 1/3 or so of DeBoer's 2024 class

Daniels is good but he’s a pussy. Hurt most of the time.
