David Shaw is Larry Coker

Disagree. Coker actually can build a tolerable program out of nothing. I doubt Shaw could do what he's done at UTSA.

Honest question because I have not heard anything about Coker since he was booted from Miami: Where has he done that?

I know you're not talking about Miami ... there he was handed the keys to a Ferrari in an empty parking lot and asked to drive it 5 feet and park it w/o fucking it up. And eventually he found a way to do it.

He looked like a likable old guy on the sideline for UTSA the other night. They played UA pretty tough too.

Just an observation. I'm not really trying to make a point of any kind.
 
There are two "washed up" coaches doing good work in Central Texas right now: Coker at UTSA and Franchione at Texas State. I only follow Miami for the criminal awesomeness, so I don't know why Coker got fired from there. The decline of Stanford's program under Shaw hasn't been steep, but it is there, and their pathetic offensive output against SC yesterday bodes well for Oregon.
 
Coker gradually turned a top 5 program into a 7-5 program. The thing is, they haven't really recovered with other coaches and are damn lucky the NCAA is headed by a buffoon like Emmert. In most other eras, the banhammer would have come down.

Getting back to Shaw v. Coker, that's probably apt. I thought Shaw was a good coach, but there were some disturbing trends yesterday.

Shaw's last three games against Sark speak volumes
 
Shaw makes some questionable decisions, but his teams are always tough, they play good defense, and they run the ball. I thought all along they would lose 3 or 4 this year, but he's a good coach.
 
Shaw's teams are always well prepared and built for success... but... his game day decision-making costs his team a big win or two each year and that's a multi-year trend. Anyone recall not letting Andrew Luck be Andrew Luck in the last two minutes of their BCS bowl game and losing that game? Last night Stanford should have won by 21 if not 28 and somehow they lost.

He's a good coach who runs a tough nose grind it out program. The perfect foil to his top nemesis.

That bodes well in a week division inside of a weak conference.

He would kick ass in the B1G

Coker sucks and deserved to be fired at Miami. He ran a great team into 7-5. Hiring his drecky DC after firing the head coach is what fucked them. It would be like Texas hiring one of their coordinators when they fired Mack Brown. Golden isn't a good coach either. Miami doesn't care about winning anymore. Of course they want to win, but staying out of trouble and running a clean program is as important, if not more, than winning.
 
I think Shaw has been just good enough to not dismantle what Harbaugh built. It doesn't look quite the same though. It's a slow, subtle slide.

One thing I'll give Shaw full credit for us being a smart, engaging dude. I saw some clips yesterday of his little war of words with Sark last year and was cheering out loud for him. He made Sark look and sound just like the impotent, pouty little bitch that he is.
