Grand Ole Opry matchup between Johnny Cash and the Charlie Daniels Band

Johnny Cash[/b]

A true legend that crossed generational boundaries … little introduction needed. Some of his better work:

Charlie Daniels Band[/b]

A little more on the bluegrass side of things and one of the first larger groups/bands to make a mark in popular Country music

i get stoned in the mornin, get drunk in the afternoon... if that aint HH ...FO

Oh please, CD is charmin soft compared to Cash. There's only a handful of relevant musicians that could beat Cash out for drug, alcohol, and general life abuse and it sure as shit isn't Charlie fucking Daniels.

Well I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day

And Elvis never actually wrote a song himself. Meh, I judge that era differently for what was the "norm". Cash didn't write "Hurt" either but damned if he didn't fucking live it.

I don't hold that against Cash at all. He did write a number of good songs however but there were a ton of covers too. Alas, in this case I think the OG Kristofferson version is best. He was the only Highwayman that didn't get in. Real black eye for the tourney in my view.

Daniels was my favorite when I first listened the country - Cash is a legend but I just did not like him
