Good call, though audit can lead to places. You just have to join an in-house finance function after a few years.
It's important to encourage Fudgie.

Business operations analyst working in their FSO division. Really has helped me develop my modeling and FA/DA skills. It’s been a great starting point and learning a lot, not too worried about career mobility. Have a network where it will be very easy to move into an FP&A role at one of the big Seattle/Bay tech companies or can switch into wealth management.

Nice trajectory, Fudge. Just fucking work hard while you're young and have the energy. Let your flim flam peer group whine about work/life balance while you're kicking ass and taking names. Don't get comfortable. Be competitive. Be Machiavellian when the need arises. Quietly see it all as a zero/sum game. But be nice and self-effacing on the outside. It throws them off.
Most of all, don't be loyal. Make it look like you're loyal. Talk the talk. But don't be.
Oh, and for Fuck's sake, go into the office at least as often as the current requirement and don't whine about it. Maybe even go in more. When the worm turns, and it always does, it's a lot easier to lay off names on a piece of paper than it is someone you actually know from social engagement. I speak from experience, having sat in that room more times than I care to remember, trying to "get to a number."
