Cancun ….cool fucking city

I was in PV in 84 and the cops were by far the biggest danger
Truth - Throbber spent time in both Tijuana and Ensenada around the same time with a bro from San Diego (Torrey Pines). The guy's dad said be out by dark - I'm not coming to bail you out.

Went to PV in about 1988 for a company reward trip. Was told to not leave the resort after dark too.

Trips to both Playa and Mazatlan in the 2010's. Military going up and down the main street with machine guns mounted to their vehicles.

Never going back to Mexico. Way too many other places in the world with warm water and beaches.

I spent 4-5 days in Los Barriles in 2022 to flyfish for marlin and chill with Mrs flatus. Was lured there by the facade of inexpensive food, lodging, etc. Bullshit. The tipping culture there is insane. A lot of the prices weren't that great, either. I could have gone to an all-inclusive flyfishing lodge for the same or less and had a much better experience. I have little interest in visiting again.

A lot of talk about shit that doesn't matter, and the first mention of fishing comes on page 3. You go to Cancun to fish for permit and bonefish, and maybe the nachos. Any Mexico trip that isn't about fishing doesn't make sense.

There's a reason why it costs a lot more money to vacation in Hawaii versus Mexico. I will take Hawaii and its higher prices 10/10 times.
If I still lived in Seattle, Hawaii would be the only tropical place I’d go on vacation. Now that we live in Kentucky, the 15 hours of flying to Hawaii sucks so we’re looking south.

We’ve vacationed in St Thomas, St Croix, Costa Rica and Mexico outside the U.S. along with trips to Key West and both the gulf and Atlantic sides of Florida.

Of those places, St Croix was probably my favorite.

Went to Mazatlán on my HS senior trip... fried on acid during a wicked storm, and the entire city lost power. Amazing experience.

Went to PV for a friend's wedding, had a great time there too.
