Can talking heads please STFU about the "Group of Death" now?

Based on rankings the USA's group was the toughest on paper. But that and 3 bucks will get ya a tall Americano at SB's.

World soccer rankings make preseason top 25 rankings look wizardly. 2 of the top 4 teams in the world got bounced in Spain and Portugal. And the 2 countries where Soccer probably means the most, Italy and England got bounced too. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the USA got into the next round.

But there was no group of death. The USA snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and then relied on the good will of Portugal to win a game that they had nothing to play for to get in.

It's like an 8-8 team backing into a wild card spot.
 
Before the tournament, I was willing to take a win vs. Ghana, a tie with Portugal, and a loss to Germany and take my chances at advancing.

It's good for soccer in this country to see us advance again. And while Belgium will be a favorite in the 2018 World Cup, they are young and we have a good chance with our experience to get to the Quarters - which would be a good accomplishment for the US.
 
Christ. Half the people I work with are in Belgium, and they are all soccer crazy. I am going to hear soccer talk in every conference call for the next 5 days. I think I am calling in sick. Fuck this.
