Over the years, ***** & I have developed a system where I make a meal plan & then a grocery list for the week ... I email him that list & he typically goes grocery shopping some evening on his way home from work. In this season of life, it’s just what works best for us. I’ve noticed something though...whenever I mention this to other married women, most of them look at me with wide eyes of disbelief. So often, I hear things like “I would never trust my husband alone in a grocery store.” Or, “I would never allow that. He would come home with all the wrong stuff!”
This makes me so sad! Especially, when most of these men are actually successful business owners or are in charge of/responsible for many important tasks in their work places. They are obviously capable of much & yet their own wives don’t “trust” them in a grocery store.
We have so much belittling/shaming/disrespectful treatment of men in our society (watch most sitcoms & commercials these days if you don’t believe me.)
We, as wives, need to believe in our men & stop treating them like an incapable child that should go back into his “man cave” where he’ll be out of the way & not mess anything up while we just take charge of it all.
Our husbands deserve so much more respect than this.
There are little eyes watching & taking their cues from us...& I firmly believe the health of our next generation depends so greatly on this subject.
(And to be clear...this post really has nothing to do with grocery shopping. Or who does what chore or task in a household. That’s obviously going to look different for everyone for a variety of reasons.
My whole point is that we need to be careful & recognize how we view & speak of & treat our husbands. They are the head of our homes & leaders of our families!)
