Athlon tabs Oregon-Portland State the 'most shameful' game of 2018 season

Who cares...this team isn't ready to compete for a playoff spot, so why does their OOC schedule have any importance?

As UW pointed out in 2016, OOC is 100% irrelevant in today's game.

Ax Baylor...

OOC is only important if you are a contender. If everything goes Oregon's way they might be a contender in 2019.

Baylor used to be a contender and has had that OOC schedule kick them in the ass 2-3 times after a heartbreaking late season conference loss. Unless you go 13-0 you aren't making it to the playoffs playing a garbage OOC, simple fact. If teams want to play with fire that's fine, but every time a team like Baylor did it, they got burned. Washington got in with one loss with a shitty OOC schedule, but their only loss came to a #3 ranked USC team, and even then, UW barely made it.

But a team like Oregon with a new head coach that is hoping for 9 wins, it's kind of perfect having a soft OOC. It gives the coaching staff and players a little more time to gel while also boosting their confidence.

Jeez....I'm sure some SEC or ACC team is playing Liberty, Furman, Mercer, or The Citadel

Liberty, Furman, Mercer and The Citadel would've beaten Oregon State last year.

Portland State did not. But it was their closest game of the season at 35-32.
