All 4 of the playoff team head coaches were promoted to HC from within

Saw this on /r/cfb/ (reddit for you boomers out of the loop) today and thought it was interesting and maybe relevant here

Lincoln Riley[/b] - OU offensive coordinator 2015-2016. OU head Coach since 2017
Dabo Swinney[/b] - Clemson WR Coach and Assistant Head Coach 2003-2008. Clemson Full time Head Coach since 09 (08 was Interim)
Ryan Day[/b] - Ohio St. Offensive Coordinator 2017-2018. First year Ohio St. Head Coach
Ed Orgeron[/b] - LSU DL Coach 2015-2016. LSU Head Coach since 2016

Orgeran had been a head coach and did so bad that he scared USC away after doing good there as an interim

He is in the perfect place. But now he has to do it every year and Nick is still there at Bama. It was a magical season for LSU

We don't know if Ryan Day can recruit like Urban and the wife beater. Ohio State has a massive talent edge over everyone but Clemson and LSU

Dabo is the only one that you can crown his ass IMO

The other three are on the clock for a crowing or a regression

Lake sucks until he doesn't. Same as smalls same as huard same as everyone.

Good to know its possible though.
